Lumina Lacquer - Chinese Lanterns NOTD

My nails have been in a real funk the past few weeks so I've been putting off wearing my coveted chunky glitter polishes because they generally tend to be a PITA to remove. Yesterday, however, Chinese Lanterns by Lumina Lacquer was really calling to me, so I slapped a light coat on top of my current mani at the time, Sinful Colors Dream On

I love the flashes of blue and gold glitter mixed with the predominantly red, pink and black. The large heart glitters (there's red, holographic and black ones) are pretty easy to grab up assuming they're well dispersed (mine wasn't, I forgot to shake!), but I'm not super skilled at placing them just where I like. This polish is a true glitter bomb!

Lumina Lacquer primarily formulates glitter polishes. Unfortunately I don't see this polish in the shop, but you can check out their Facebook page for the latest info concerning restocks.

Tick:Tock Cosmetics Swatches

I've got some quick swatches from an affordable indie brand I've purchased samples from a while back, Tick:Tock Cosmetics. They're 100% cruelty free and all their products are vegan. Currently, thep formulate only mineral eyeshadows, an eyeshadow primer and black and white bases, but their selection and quality is pretty awesome! A few of the shades I have swatched below are presently on clearance, so if you're interested, now's a good time to grab them up at a reduced price!

All swatches are done on top of Detrivore's Eyeshadow Primer and taken outside in natural light.

My personal take on the shades:

Time Square - Shimmery dark silver
It's Only Forever - A really nice light taupe! The perfect blend of brown and grey with faint green shimmer.
Midlife Crisis -  Shimmery bright, hot pink. Very very intense, I'm kind of afraid of it, haha!
One Upon a Time - I adore these soft lavender shades. It has a pretty aqua sheen.
Tempus Fugit -  This shade is a pale silvery-blue, with a greenish shimmer throughout. It's not as dark as it is here on the swatch. It'd make a neat highlight color!
Frozen in Time -  My swatch sucks, this color is kind of a chameleon! It's a pale blue with aqua shimmer throughout, and in some lighting I swear I see a slight purple tinge to it too.

Stop... Zombie Time - A yellowish green, which I'm always gravitating to when I look for green eyeshadows. The name makes it extra awesome.
Oh-Nine Hundred - Another sort of limey green, a little darker than Stop.. Zombie Time.
Uroboros -  Medium green with copper shimmer. This one's my favorite of the greens I swatched.
The One That Got Away - Loooove this yellow, it's so pigmented! It has pretty contrasting pink shimmer.
Happy Hour -  A little more orange-toned than The One That Got Away, with a shimmery light blue interference. Another surprisingly pretty yellow!
Metronome - Pretty shimmery white. I can't say it's unique from the plethora of other shimmery white shadows I happen to own.

I love browsing their colors because their store is well organized and they have their own swatches of each shade and how it wears on the eyes. This is SO helpful. I really wish more indie brands took the time to do this, as it makes shopping quick and easy and I'm less likely to purchase a color that isn't entirely what I expected it to be.  I definitely want to purchase from them again!

I've been off diligently studying bugs like a good entomology grad student should... while simultaneously totally neglecting my blog! Whoopsie! But I'm back, and happy to say that I have successfully reached a milestone in my life by completing my Master's degree!

...Well, maybe not that weird.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to blogging more, and maybe even doing more makeup looks in the near future. So stick around, I'm still alive and kickin'! ^-^/

Pink and Red FOTD~

Yaaaay, I actually did a look today! This one is pink and red themed, and also Valentines Day appropriate! I did this challenge for NTMS, because I haven't attempted one in quite a while. It's time I pick up the slack.

Sorry for the sorta shit-tier lighting... I didn't get a chance to take photos of it until it was already dark. So yeah, bathroom shots it is! My blush didn't show at all... darn it.

Stuff I used to achieve this look:

- Concrete Mineral's Electric Eye Primer to prime eyes
- NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk applied lightly as a base
- Fyrinnae's Nijiro (shimmery pale nude) applied in inner corner
- Concrete Mineral's Brat (bright pink) applied wet in the middle
- Fyrinnae's Kamekaze (shimmery red) applied wet to inner corner, and drawn out into a cat eye using an angled liner brush
- NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk applied on top and tapered at the end into a second wing using an angled brush
- Fyrinnae's Marshmellow Puffs (matte white) patted on top to set the cream base
- Physician's Formula Lash Boosting Eyeliner in Ultra Black to line the upper eyelid and part of the lower eyelid
- Maybelline Great Lash mascara in Blackest Black

- Benefit Ultra Shines lipgloss in Foxy Lady

L.A. Girls Pro Conceal HD Concealer in Creamy Beige on the under-eye area
- Skin 79 Super+ BB Cream (pink container) mixed with Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 130 Buff Beige
- Smashbox Dolce Vita, E.L.F. Pink Passion and  Hard Candy Living Doll blushes layered heavily from the cheekbone to hairline

I'm gunna exercise and sweat all this stuff off now!

Two NOTD's featuring D & R Apothecary Hit Polish!

Hey again guys, long time no see! I've been on sort of a makeup slump these days, so for now I have another small batch of NOTD's to show off. This time, I though I'd share two manis featuring D & R Apothecary's Hit Polish on Etsy. They make a ton of amazing glittery topcoat polishes, and if you check out their Facebook page, there's some amazing new collections about to be released!

A England's Lady of the Lake and Hit Polish Funhouse.

I just loved this combination! I wish I could get a better photo of the holographic shimmer in Lady of the Lake. Funhouse really pops against the deep purple base and kinda reminds me of multicolored paint splatters across my nails.

Zoya Faye and Hit Polish Enchanted

And this is my current NOTD. Faye is an unusual color in my polish collection. It wants to be pink or purple sometimes, but in different lighting the coppery-rose flecks really shine through! Enchanted has complimentary copper and rose glitter and soft blue glitter all in different sizes to contrast. Some are also holographic! The photo doesn't really do this combo justice, it's insanely shimmery!

Anyway, I have quite a few Hit Polishes in my collection, and there's so many more I'm lemming it's getting sort of ridiculous. They're definitely one of my favorite indie polish brands, and they have sales quite frequently.

Have you tried their polishes? What are YOUR favorites?
